  Shri Pranab Kumar Mukherjee (11 December 1935 – 31 August 2020) was an Indian politician who served as the 13th President of India from 2012 until 2017. In a political career spanning five decades, Mukherjee was a senior leader in the Indian National Congress and occupied several ministerial portfolios in the Government of India. Prior to his election as President, Mukherjee was Union Finance Minister from 2009 to 2012. He was awarded India's highest civilian honour, the Bharat Ratna in 2019 by the President of India, Ram Nath Kovind. We celebrate National Engineer's Day on September 15, the birth anniversary of Mokshagundam Visvesvaraya, who is considered one of the finest engineers of the country. According to the Institution of Engineers India (IEI), he is best known for his discourse 'Planned Economy for India and Reconstructing India' which is the first of its kind to describe the country's planning efforts and is even today regarded as the parent source matter for economic planners. Visvesvaraya successfully designed and constructed several river dams, bridges and revolutionized the irrigation system in India by implementing irrigation and drinking water system all over the country.
